During the wax try-in phase, the following aspects of the denture are evaluated:
- Function: Ensure proper suction of the wax or acrylic base. If inadequate, temporary fixes can be made using denture adhesive cream.
- Occlusion and Contact Relations:
- Check the centric occlusion and static contact points.
- Confirm the correct position of lower posterior teeth with a ball-shaped condenser to ensure static balance.
- Esthetics:
- Assess lip support, ensuring upper anterior teeth are positioned aesthetically.
- Phonetics:
- Evaluate the incisal edge placement by having the patient articulate a prolonged “F” sound. The edges should contact the lower lip at the transition from dry to moist tissue.
- Verify occlusal height by asking the patient to say words like “Mississippi” or “sixty-six” to observe speech clarity and comfort.
